Salary Not a Top Consideration for Most Job Seekers

talent statisticsContrary to popular belief, salary is not the first (or second or third) thing most job seekers look at when applying to jobs, according to new findings from CareerBuilder.

In a recent survey of 868,697 job seekers nationwide, 45 percent of participants said location was one of the top three factors influencing their decision to apply for a job – more than twice the amount of job seekers who said the same of salary.

For the study, participants were given a list of 16 factors and asked to choose the three that most influence their decision to apply to jobs. After location, desirable industry appeared most frequently, with 33 percent of job seekers listing it in their top three, followed by company reputation (a top three for 25 percent), and interesting assignments (23 percent). Salary and advancement opportunities tied for the fifth spot, both named by 22 percent of job seekers as one of their top three reasons for applying.
