Welcome to Recruiter Spotlight, where CareerBuilder recognizes recruiting industry professionals who excel in their field. This month, we are proud to recognize Sybil Galligan, Direct Placement Manager at Adecco, for her remarkable efforts to match the right people with the right jobs in the right companies.
CareerBuilder: What makes you stand out among other recruiters?
Sybil Galligan: I live and breathe recruiting – both personally and professionally. I am proud to say that I have a career I love. I am in my dream job, so it is very easy for me to place other people in their dream jobs. I don’t just see numbers; I genuinely see the people behind them and sincerely cater to the customer’s needs every single time.
How do you demonstrate passion for your work?
I will go the extra mile for both the candidate and the client to consistently ensure that the playing field is even on both sides. I also stay on top of recruiting trends and keep an open line of communication with top talent, whether there is an open requisition or not. I aim to deliver 10 out of 10 service on every single order, whether it’s a repeat or new client. My interactions with my clients and candidates feed me professionally and fulfill my passion for the business.
What are you doing to empower employment?
Adecco is a huge supporter both in reskilling workers and in supporting veterans through our “Career Accelerator” program. We also have a strong community presence and partner with such programs as Bike 4 Youth, Special Olympics and Susan Komen Breast Cancer Support, to name a few. These avenues invite Equal Opportunity employment within and on behalf of Adecco in all categories. I stay on top of recruiting trends to give the general public easier and less cumbersome ways to access jobs, like social media and the Adecco app on iPhone, which is a fantastic and free tool!
Tell a story about a unique or special placement you made.
In 21 years as a recruiter, one story in particular stands out. One time, a private company requested my assistance to hire a CFO. The current CFO had been diagnosed with cancer and doctors gave him a year to live. Having served the firm for 22 years, he had built strong relationships both professionally and personally and this was devastating news. In a meeting with the Chairman and the CEO, I was told that they would like me to find the replacement, but it could not be an advertised search and the name of the company could not be released under any circumstance. It was a six-tier interview process, followed by a background check before an offer would be extended; however, there would be no start date until the CFO passed away and the candidate selected needed to be understanding about this matter. After a hectic recruiting campaign with over 30 recruits, I finally found my choice. In the eight months before the current CFO asked to meet the candidate to ‘officially’ hand over the reigns, I spoke with the candidate every day just to keep him updated, engaged and interested. This was definitely my most emotional and memorable placement.
How do you use CareerBuilder in your recruiting strategy?
CareerBuilder is certainly an important tool in my daily recruiting efforts. I use it as a direct recruiting tool, a networking tool, as well as an informational tool for benchmarking salaries, industry trends, who is hiring and how often, how the region where I am based compares in hiring percentages over other regions, and employment rates. The benefits of CareerBuilder are endless and have allowed me to remain at the top of my game over the last 18 years. Not a day goes by when I don’t utilize CareerBuilder!
