Welcome to the dog days of summer: The time of year in North America when it’s excessively humid, and we like to complain about it.
We are fools, aren’t we? We’ve long forgotten about the polar vortex and the disgusting snow banks in Boston. We have no sympathy for our Australian cousins who are currently dealing with the Antarctic vortex. But, no shock, human beings have been fools since the time of Homer. In “The Iliad,” he describes the approach of Achilles toward Troy using these words:
Sirius rises late in the dark, liquid sky
On summer nights, star of stars,
Orion’s Dog they call it, brightest
Of all, but an evil portent, bringing heat
And fevers to suffering humanity.
Yeah, it’s hot. It’s always hot in August. Someone needs to get us a cold pop!
I hate to break it to you, but ain’t nobody got time to get you a pop.
However, our resident talent advisors will spend the month of August getting you ready for CareerBuilder’s upcoming event in September: CareerBuilder Empower.
We will help you think beyond your current HR certification and share the top five things you can do to get ahead in your job right now. We’ll also share the most important recruiting metrics and the best ways to create a pool of talent that cares about your company. We will share the four key elements of professional development to become a top-notch talent advisor. And we will deconstruct the skills gap, explore the buzz on big data, and talk about the myths and benefits of acquiring your MBA.
We’ve Got Something Better Than a Cold Pop…
CareerBuilder Empower will be held in Chicago on September 8-11, 2015. Join 1000+ other leaders — and Jennifer McClure, Tim Sackett, and Matt Stollak — for the talent acquisition event of the year. We will identify opportunities to move the industry forward, and we will work together as talent advisors to make recruitment and HR easier and more effective.
And I’ll be there, too. Although the weather will be glorious, I promise to bring you a cold pop if you want to connect and talk about our great articles here on the Talent Advisor Portal!
