It’s a commonly held belief that most people become more fiscally conservative as they age – so it may be a bit surprising to learn that baby boomer job seekers are more likely to accept a lower salary in exchange for a better candidate experience than are their Gen X and Gen Y counterparts.
According to CareerBuilder’s 2015 Candidate Behavior study, 80 percent of baby boomers indicated that they would compromise on salary if it meant a more enjoyable hiring experience, compared to 76 percent of respondents from Gen X and 73 percent from Gen Y.
What this means for you
Finding and securing a job can be a frustrating process, and it’s no surprise that most job seekers, regardless of age, are going to appreciate interacting with a company that makes the process easier. They appreciate it so much, in fact, that they’d be willing to take a lower salary. This is not only a stark reminder of just how crucial it is to focus on your candidate experience, but also a clear opportunity for employers to get more satisfied employees at a lower salary – the very definition of a win-win.
