If you’re familiar with the skills gap, you probably know that it stems from a disconnect between the skills employers require and the skills candidates actually have. One of the keys to overcoming it is communication between educators, students/job candidates and employers.
CareerBuilder, in partnership with Capella Education Company, aim to facilitate that communication with a new program called RightSkill, launching this spring.
Using CareerBuilder’s unmatched repository of labor market data, Capella will create online learning experiences in high-demand fields, focused on developing the skills employers need the most. These competency-based learning solutions are designed to take only 90 days to complete.
Leveraging CareerBuilder’s strong connections to top employers, RightSkill then helps place candidates in higher-skill, better-paying positions – at once helping job seekers find promising jobs and providing employers with qualified candidates.
“Millions of people in the U.S. are out of work, yet nearly half of employers have jobs they can’t fill because they can’t find qualified candidates1,” said Matt Ferguson, CEO of CareerBuilder and co-author of The Talent Equation. “Our RightSkill program will provide an affordable means to re-skill or up-skill workers in a relatively short period of time to help bridge the growing talent gap in our country. Raising skill levels will by default increase the incomes of individuals, their families and communities, and help to unlock the potential of the American workforce.”
The skills gap is an ever-looming problem that may at times seem too large to be completely eradicated. However, by combining labor market intelligence and innovative education solutions, RightSkill is poised to make a real difference.
