Scottrade believes in promoting the well being of our associates and we have created a comprehensive wellness program to do so. Our wellness program includes several aspects such as:
• Wellness Reimbursement Benefit – Eligible associates can receive reimbursement for out of pocket expenses related to wellness initiatives. This can include gym memberships, weight loss programs, tobacco cessation programs, fitness courses, personal trainers, home gym equipment and more. Associates enrolled in our medical insurance can participate in several wellness activities such as online health coaching, online health assessments and preventative screenings to increase their annual benefit amount.
• Non Tobacco User Discount – Associates enrolled in our medical insurance who are non-tobacco users or tobacco users, but are actively enrolled in a tobacco cessation program, can receive a discount on their monthly medical insurance premiums.

We also conduct Weight Watchers @ Work meetings onsite and provide a service called GlobalFit, which provides additional discounts, to our associates.

They also arrange for branch associates to visit their local lab to have the screenings performed. Scottrade subsidizes the cost of the screenings paying approx. 2/3 of the cost.

Golden Valley has a new Health Promotion every year. Last year, we held a Biggest Loser competition with monthly weight checks and in March, 2010, gift cards and cash were awarded to those that either met their goal of weight lose and also those that were the biggest losers. Now, the goal is A1C checks on all 600 employees.
We offer a year-long program where people track points they've earned from eating five servings of fruits/vegetables, exercising, strength training, getting a physical and other events. They can turn in their points to receive a gift card or cash reward. We also hold an event or challenge once per quarter like a health fair, Shape Up Challenge, fitness challenge, etc. We offer a website with wellness resources and programs to supplement our program as well. We also present on a health topic or wise health care consumer topic 4 times per year at our all employee meetings amongst many other things.
Our company just started our official "Steps to Wellness" Program. All employees are encouraged to participate. It is a guide to help employees get & stay healthy. The employees complete a "scorecard" with several tasks and turn the completed card in for a chance at a "Day Off With Pay". The tasks include annual physical, preventative tests (mammogram, colonoscopy), gym membership, quit smoking, cholesterol and blood sugar testing, decrease body fat, etc. The more staff who enter, the more days off we will raffle. The staff are pretty excited about it. The staff are also asked to complete an HRA (Health Risk Assessment) before and after so they can see the positive results of the program.
A few of our wellness programs include a "Healthy Life" bulletin board in our common area. It includes our "Live Healthy, Live Happy" updates with lists of nutrient dense foods, local exercise activities (like 5ks, charitable walks/runs, etc). We also have a personal trainer who comes in quarterly with nutrition and exercise updates and programs. He is awesome at keeping us motivated to live a healthy lifestyle. We've had 'biggest loser' contests and have instituted "healthy celebrations" so instead of office parties with birthday cake, etc... we offer fun, health conscious foods to celebrate our special occasions. Stress relief is also part of our program, adding in stress relief exercises for the work place and home life. We encourage all employees to offer ideas on the "Healthy Life" bulletin board so everyone gets a chance to bring something to the table! Whenever we can participate in a community exercise event, we have a company “team” of participants who represent our wellness program for others to live by... it's awesome!
We have done a variety of things from Bio-metric screenings, mamogram vans, Podiatrist on site, walking challenge, company sponsered Biggest Losing Team, flu shots to making sure Chantix is covered under our insurance.
We are looking into offering low cost healthy food options in our Cafe (and charging extra for unhealthy items) as well as looking to do more for our employees' spouses with the above list.
Our physical activity program includes lunchtime aerobics twice a week, weekly after-hours yoga and an onsite workout area with elliptical machine, mini-trampoline, free weights, yoga mats and yoga accessories. Our nutrition program includes nutrition challenges, weight-management programs and a "Snack Attack" area with healthy food options. We offer annual confidential health risk assessments, on-site flu clinics, and full reimbursement of nicotine replacement or other quit-smoking aids.
Our Fun Committee regularly organizes events for holidays, birthdays and, well, just for fun. Hat Day, High-Five Wednesday, Hula Hoop contests, Wii competitions - random, silly but fun and stress relieving.
To encourage professional development and team-building, we hold periodic lunchtime Brown Bag and Oxygen Bar internal meetings to foster collaboration, communication and training.
We encourage giving back to the community and working for good causes. When we feel we’re contributing, we’re happier and healthier. Check out www.DotheDeed.org.
We strive to provide an engaging and collaborative work environment coupled with activities and programs that contribute to a balanced work life.
We have recently begun a wellness promotion to formalize a wellness program. The first thing we did was get Management buyin and endorsement. The committment was to go as far as building a wellness center on site. Secondly, we are in the process of identifying major risk factors. Thirdly, we will begin polling our employees to determine their interest and needs. Once we have made the needs assessment, we will establish a map for going forward. In management discussions, we realized that we do a lot of wellness promotions. Among those are immunizations, low co-pays for physicals, golf tournament, walk-a-thons, sponsorship of teams at community sponsored jogathons, smoking cessation classes, gym sponsorships, weight reduction seminars, and others.
Our company publishes a monthly wellness newsletter filled with information on how to maximize all the benefits of our medical, dental, vision and life insurance plans as well as excersize tips and financial wellness information.
During the the summer we have a walking challenge going on. All employees were assigned to a team (this was not a voluntary initiative). Pedometers were distributed to all employees.
Employees are teamed up in groups of 4 or 5 per team and their goal is to walk 10k stpes per day from June 1st to August 31st. We have a "virtual" walking route which begins in Scituate, Ma and ends in Bar Harbor, ME, totalling 300 miles. There is a map and list of all teams posted for employees to track their progress.
The first two teams to get all their team members to the finish line will compete in a bean bag toss competition to determine the winner. We have prizes and incentives throughout the summer to motivate employees.
Some of the prizes include gift cards to a local sporting goods store. We have had a personal trainer on-site to do wellness screenings for our employees. They had their BMI, Blood Pressure and Weight/Measurements completed and earned bonus steps towards the walking challenge.
Monthly Bean Bag Toss competitions are planned at each of our sites and employees can earn steps just by attending and supporting their team.
For the month of July we have a "submit a healthy recipe" contest planned. At the end of the Walking challenge the recipes will be compiled into a book and distrubted to our employees.
We will celebrate the end of the challenge with a Family Fun Day at a local amusement park.
My Company has great medical, dental, and vision insurance - along with other options(STD, LTD, etc). Last year we started a Health Challenge. Different activities are assigned different point levels - based on the honor system - we have associates log their work-outs to earn points. The points can then be cashed in for cool prizes (pedometers, gym bags, work out clothes, stainless steel water bottles, etc). We also have an annual bike race at our home office and give away amazing prizes for participation - last year we gave away two netbooks, cell phones, etc. Really gets people excited about being active!
One really fun wellness initiative that my company implemented is building an employee vegetable garden. The garden is divided into various plots that employees signed up to plant their vegetables in. We just started the garden project this year and participation has been huge. We have a huge variety of vegetables including peppers, tomatoes, eggplant, beans, corn, carrots, watermelon, chives, etc. This is a really fun project and is relatively inexpensive!
We have a Working on Wellness ("WOW") Committee that encompasses 6 different groups: Quit Smoking, Eat Healthy, Reduce Stress, Get Screened, Get Active & Watch Weight. We have Weight Watchers, a Biggest Loser contest, Free Workout Classes on Mondays & Wednesday's by an Instructor, Numerous Health Seminars, Walking on Weekdays (12:30 - 1:00pm every day a member of the committe leads anyone interested in a walk), Smoking Cessation program and a Nintendo Wii available on lunch breaks. All of these have been Free to our employees. We have an Annual Health Fair that offers health screenings, wellness information, massages, exercise demonstration, healthy food/snacks, raffles/prizes. We give montegary prizes for employees who attend the activities and are starting a year long tracking process of activities attended for prizes at the end of the year. The company also contributes a large portion for the health benefits, so all benefits are VERY affordable.
We have begun working closely with our health insurance provide to implement a program. Offering in-house fitness class, lunch n learns, blood pressure clincs, health fairs, interest surveys, etc. Looking for ways to get the employees engaged and sustaining a healthly lifestyle the biggest challenge, hoping a soon to be rolled out walk the most steps competition really gets employees involved.
Our company give a very generous discount on the cost of our benefits for employees who participate in the wellness program. We also have different programs such as wellness grants where employees can receive a grant to use towards something health/wellness related. But perhaps the most important thing our company does to promote the wellness program is that is it embaced by our CEO and senior leaders within the company. Wellness is not viewed as an "HR iniciative" but as a core part of who we are as a company.
Health Club Reimbursement Policy will change to Wellness Reimbursement Policy
The Health Club Reimbursement Program is being changed to the Wellness Reimbursement Program to allow for expansion of the program to include a wider variety of accepted expenses. The Corporation will reimburse 50% of employees’ costs up to $125 per year.
Covered programs include weight loss program fees, healthcare provider-sponsored nutritional seminars, smoking cessation classes, fitness classes and registrations fees for community events such as marathons, walkathons, etc.
Onsite HRA's for employees and spouses, wellness challenges tied into our safety program with the ability to earn a vacation day. On-site health fairs.
Our company, dock3, is special because we offer programs that foster employee engagement, reduce employee stress and offer savings through our employee discount programs for 1000's of people wearing many hats, working for Fortune 500 organizations throughout the country.
We give the gift of time to employees by offering the services that would take up precious weekend, family time and put these services in place right at the workplace.
Our law firm provides a very comprehensive health and welfare benefits package. Along with that we have an awesome wellness initiative.
We provide on-site health screenings which includes BMI, blood pressure & cholesterol profile. If anyone is at risk, free health coaching is provided. We also provide annual flu shots; free to all employees & minimal cost to spouses. There is a full service fitness center in our building that offers a discount AND additionally we also offer on-site fitness classes 3 times a week in our building. Every Wednesday we have Wellness Wednesday, which is a group of employees who has lunch together, go for walks, visits the local farmer's market, etc. We have weekly wellness emails sent to all in the firm and 2 different monthly newsletters distributed. We have a Holiday Weigh In which runs from Thanksgiving week to the day after Super Bowl. The goal is to maintain or lose weight during the most challenging time of the year. The participant who loses the most weight, by percent gets $100. We also do monthly weigh ins for smaller prizes. Recently we started a wellness challenge, where participants keep track of miles walked, exercise, healthy foods, water, etc. The participant with the most points each month receives a traveling trophy and a small monetary prize. Through the year we also do smaller challenges. We also have on site chair massages once a month. We also hold lunch & learns throughout the year on health/wellness related topics. Our firm also sponsors a few cause walks that several employees participate in. We have a great Wellness Committee and great support from upper managment!
Healthy Work Environment
The Healthy Work Environment consists of: Leadership Development & Employee Health and Safety. A component of the Healthy Work Environment is an Employee Wellness/Safety Fair which is scheduled this summer. Employees will have the opportunity to get their BMI checked, lab work drawn for Cholesterol lipid profile, and complete their Personal Health Assessment online. Additionally they will receive “hands on” exercise tips and counseling sessions from Personal Trainers, education on nutrition, diabetes, and lung awareness. Risk reduction tips around slips, trips, and falls, and proper positioning of patients. Employees will also receive jump ropes, health journals, pedometers, water bottles, and much more!
We hear it in the Engagement Survey. Employees want to know what we're doing aroung the idea of Wellness. Now is the time to take control of your health. And how do you balance work and a healthy lifestyle? We have partnered with a local gym and our Senior Leaders are on board. We are trying to get as much employee participation as possible, to let them know that we care about their healthy work environment!
Experience:
This will be our first annual Employee Wellness Fair, scheduled this summer. We are expecting a high turnout. The Cholesterol lipid profile will give employees an idea of how healthy they are. This will be a fun experience so employees can learn properly how to exercise at home, even if they can't make it to the gym. They will receive information on healthy diets. We will have contests at the department level to make it a challenge and to encourage their colleagues to participate. The giveaway items with our wellness logo printed on them will be fun and something useful as a takeaway and a constant reminder of how we care about the healthy work environment.
Measurement:
The goal is overall health of our employees. If we can prove that we have lowered healthcare costs and possibly insurance premiums for our employees, because of healthier lifestyles, we have been successful!
SkillStorm provides medical, dental, vision and prescription drug plans and a new work-life balance EAP (Employee Assistance Plan) is available to all employees. This program is provided at no additional charge and can help employees find solutions for the everyday challenges of work and home as well as far more serious issues involving emotional and physical well-being. Some of the services provided through the EAP include childcare and/or eldercare referrals, personal relationship information, health information and online tools, legal consultations with licensed attorneys, financial planning assistance and stress management and career development.
SkillStorm also offers a wide variety of voluntary benefit plans designed to allow employees to tailor their benefits to meet their needs and those of their families. Voluntary benefit programs include med-support insurance, critical illness insurance and accident insurance.
We also hold wellness program initiatives, such as a Shape-up Challenge which promotes health and wellness within the organization and encourages weight loss through competition. Employees volunteered to participate in this program. Participating employees were asked to take a form to a doctor, nutritionist or gym to have their body fat percentage measured. Each contestant tracked their body fat over a 90-day period. Participants that lost the highest percentage of body fat were declared the winners. Prizes included an $800 gift card for a new slimmer wardrobe and complimentary massages.
The company also promotes healthy living by providing health conscious snacks such as granola bars, fresh fruit, nuts and more. Water, protein shakes, fruit juice and sports drinks are also readily available at no cost to employees.
SkillStorm makes contributions towards each employee’s health benefits, regardless of what level of insurance they choose. Health benefits are also available for SkillStorm employees’ families and domestic partners.
In addition to health insurance, SkillStorm offers a company-paid basic life/ accidental death and dismemberment insurance. Employees have the option to purchase additional life insurance. The company offers voluntary short term and long term disability plans at the employee’s expense. SkillStorm employees can also choose to enroll in the company’s flexible spending accounts program.
Our company has been driving wellness for a couple of years. We start with a $50.00 discount per month if you complete a health screening survey and have an annual physical. Knowledge is power. We also pay 100% of all smoking cessation programs, have walking groups, a healthy menu option in the cafe daily, cookbooks, free gym membership, and we address every new orientation with our wellness challenge. We have seen great results from just helping people know their numbers.
Our company provides free access to on-site exercise facilities. We also provide access to education on exercise, diet, cooking, lifestyle and behavior modification (including a stop smoking program).
My company does decent job when it comes to employee health and wellness. We have monthly newsletters sent to each employee with health tips and suggestions for healthier eating habits. Every year each employee must also fill out a health and wellness evaluation. It evaluates the person's overall health and gives suggestions on ways to improve it. It even goes as far as giving simple exercise routines to suggesting cutting out certain types of food.
Our Wellness program provides free screenings, a health-risk assessment and a customized Wellness Tracker to enable employees to track their physical activities. Those activities and preventative check ups earn points for employees toward valuable prizes - including gift cards and a weekend getaway. We've initiated walking groups, Weight Watcher's, heart-healthy cooking demonstrations, team fitness challenges, and even a Salsa dancing class.
We have a health education center available for all employees to provide free health screenings and advice on diet and exercise. We also have a 24 hour fitness center on site available for our employees free of charge. We offer many classes through the health education center as well as an annual Health & Wellness fair. Every year we have a Get Fit Challenge to help team members lose weight and get in shape. We also offer free flu shots for employees to keep them healthy during flu season.
1. We provide Health Risk Assessments for all employees annually.
2. We have a Wellness Committee with members in each of our locations who plan Wellness challenges and fun activities to promote healthy activity. We are currently doing a Steps Challenge between offices. Every employee was given a pedometer to wear daily for two months; each week total steps are reported and the office with the most steps per person at the end of two months will win a prize.
Our organization has a dedicated Wellness Committee that conducts a myriad of events, seminars, friendly competitions, educational offers and etc to support wellness at work and at home.
Today we wrapped up our version of the Biggest Loser, called "Perry's Summer Meltdown" (get it, ice cream company- melt down :)). We had over 11% of the organization participate and they lost a total of 133 pounds in a 6 week session. We plan to run another session this winter and have great goals for additional participants.
To support the team members' positive results and engage new participation, we'll take the know your numbers initiative from our April's Safety, Health & Wellness fair and begin an Autumn walking group and health eating club.
Not only is our organization committed to the Health and Well being of all its team members and families, but at Perry's, we are dedicated to production of safe, high quality products and team member safety.
We offer onsite weight loss programs, quit smoking seminars, healthy choices in our cafeteria and vending machines, a gym on premises, walks, contest like the biggest loser, on-site medical screenings, blood pressure testing, massage therapy, co-ed athletics sport teams and onsite nurse. Our companies commitment to its employees is #1 and its proven in their actions.
Our corporation offers a discount to us on our health care premium if we participate in annual on-site health screenings. Our insurance company has a wellness team that comes to our offices and conducts a preventive screening for blood pressure, BMI, cholesterol, glucose and weight. We are given our screening results and a guide to help us understand our levels and how to make improvements, if necessary. We also have access to a health coach and we receive a monthly health improvement newsletter.
We are just in the infancy of our wellness program adoption. At this point, we are bringing weight watchers in house and providing an offset for the cost. We are on the 8th floor and are encouraging our employees to take extra breaks to walk the stairs or the parking garage. We partner with our Health Insurance provider to offer on-site wellness fairs at all locations that include a blood panel that gives the basics (cholesterol, glucose, etc) and measures weight, body fat, etc and then tracks results. We send out monthly wellness communications and encourage preventative fitness. We have partnered with a few gyms to offer discounted rates, but haven't seen many people take advantage of that. We are still looking into a program to help our employees stop smoking and other fitness and wellness programs.
In the year 2009 our corporate headquarters developed a 3 component program to get the employees premium costs down and in the long run, help them develope healthy life habits. You received credit in 3 areas: No tobacco use, taking a health risk assessment on line, and to track healthy habits. This year the Myers Lawn and Garden site is conducting their 2nd annual health fair since the first one in August of 2009 was so successful. And it earns points towards their health activity. Everyone wins!!! Employee participation is growing and the savings are too for both the employee and the company.
Improve your Health, Grower your Wealth is our slogan.
Thank you

This blog is such a great reward for company wellness champions!
Our company, as well as several affiliates, have experienced the heartbreaks of the economic downturn. However - our Chairman has continued to promote a culture of wellness. Over the last six (6) calendar quarters we have provided employees with quarterly cash incentives to lose and maintain weight loss. Team incentives (biggest loser challenge, logging in foods and activities in an online journal) and individual cumulative rewards i.e.,$4 per % of weight loss up to 10% per quarter, have helped in a time when one-on-one programs have not been available. Our CEO understands the importance of weight loss and healthy weight maintenance to offset the costs associated with healthcare - both now and in the future. Our primary medical plans offer wellness and preventive care benefits at 100% coverage levels, along with several smoking cessation programs, including $0 co-pays for 'scripts to aid in smoking cessation. We want to be a leader in health and wellness programs for our employees and are taking a step back to measure and define "best of the best" programs to offer our employees in the future as the economy bounces back and our vision to be a leader in employee wellness programs and successes is defined.
Our company pays 85% of the cost of Health & Dental insurance. We removed all vending machines and replaced them with fruit which we only charge 25 cents for. Our Wellness program is very simple because we have so many remote employees. 1) We pay employees a $200 Bonus to get an annual complete physical (which is paid for 100% by BCBS). 2) Each quarter employees are asked to set a Health Improvement Goal. We pay them $50/Qtr for meeting their goal. We realized each employee had different areas they need to work on - some need to lose weigh, some need to eat healtier foods, some need to exercise more, some needed to stop smoking, etc. We have had tremendous success with this approach. Employees have lost weight, lower their cholestrol, etc.
We JUST started a wellness program at our company and are very excited to get started. We provided discounted health insurance rates to anyone participating in the program and 1/2 price gym memberships. We filled out a personal health assessment and we have monthly wellness meetings. The next few meetings are: What do we do with our Assessment Results?; Healthy Fast Food Choices close to work, Why should I eat breakfast?
Pilot Travel Centers offers a self-insured Consumer-Driven Health Plan. We try to save the company and the participants money not by "not getting treated" but by spending health dollars on the right things and improved health saves everybody money. Our plan allows employees to roll money they save into the next plan year, further reducing their expenses. We have a generous preventive program, with free immunizations, no-cost annual check-ups, and no-cost online health and wellness coaching. We run truck stops and have little free time. Our approach to exercise is very “functional", meaning it’s not intended to help you "look" a certain way but to help you feel better all the time and to do your job, at work or at home, with energy, full range of motion and injury-free. We don't accept the excuses that keep people from exercising, like time, cost, or convenience. We printed our own Pilot exercise book called "Functional Fitness for Road Warriors" that emphasizes simple but challenging, do-at-home, body-weight exercises. We launched a G2G program, meaning “Good to Great" that is available to all employees with multi-thousand dollar prizes to the individuals, stores and departments who make the most progress in improving their health in the areas of weight, condition management, exercise and stress. This has generated a lot of enthusiasm in our retail Travel Centers, with units competing against other units or even between shifts in the same unit. Many of these are offered at no-cost but there are other times when the employee is asked to pay part of the cost with the awareness that cost encourages accountability. At PTC, we like to say that “Your health is important and we want to help you with that.” We can’t force people to be healthy but we can do a lot to encourage it!
We have good benefits at fairly low rates for full-time and part-time employees. We provide annual flu shots free of charge and have held health fairs in conjunction with our local hospital as well as Weight Watchers at Work programs. We have a discounted gym membership. We post wellness articles, newsletters and recipes on our Wellness Wisdom website. We also hold annual blood drives to assist others in the community.
We have discounted gym memberships + paid bootcamps 2 times a week. Healthy snacks and beverages are also provided.
Our non-profit organization provides a very comprehensive benefit package with three levels of coverage. For the last 7 years we invite employees to participate in Medica's spring Shape Up Challenge. This year we created our own 5 for 5 Spring Challenge; pick 5 personal health goals you want to meet in 5 weeks (lose 5 lbs, walk 5 miles, etc. and other locations held The Biggest Loser. We have established a wellness committee with reps from 13 nursing homes and assisted livings, meeting 2-3 times annually. Coordinators help implement a halth fair at their location held every other year in their facility. For the last 6 years all employees have been provided with monthly wellness newsletter as a payroll stuffer.
We started our wellness initiative last year and began with a Walking Works program which had 40 plus participants. We also sponsored a Healthy Challenge Holiday contest and awarded a prize to the individual who lost the most weight during the holidays. All employees who were able to maintain their weight during the holidays were given an opportunity to win a prize. Our Grand Prize for the year was a gym membership.
Recently, we sponsored an 8 week fitness challenge and gave away an Ipod Touch for the winner. One employee lost 21 pounds in 8 weeks! In addition, we require employees who want to be entered for the grand prize drawing at year end to complete a health risk assessment. This year, our grand prize drawing will be for either a gym membership, Fitness equipment or a Nintendo WII with WII ACTIVE.
We have also added a column in our quarterly newsletter to further promote our wellness initiatives and to stress the importance of leading a healthier lifestyle.
As an environmental engineering company we're passionate about living in ways that are sustainable for the environment and we carry that value over to ourselves. We have a full kitchen in the office and employees cook up all sorts of vegetarian and organic dishes every day. After lunch there's a walking group. We have onsite showers for those who go out for a run during the day or bike to work. We also have our very own Doctor who is on call confidentially to any employee who needs a consultation about their health or navigating the healthcare system and that Doc comes in once a month for an on-site Brown Bag lunches on Eating Raw, Stress and Health, Quitting Smoking Techniques, Office Safety and more. We offer excellent medical, dental and disability coverage. Our culture emphasizes personal responsibility for a healthy lifestyle with a minimal carbon footprint. Fresh foods, local or garden grown produce and lots of filtered water in washable glasses are a way of life here.
We do 2-3 wellness programs throughout the year, and change up the programs each year. Every Spring we do a biggest loser type of competition and the grand prize winner gets a trip for two to any state we have an office in (including Hawaii) and a sizeable donation to make to a charity of their choice. It’s a great way to get people up and moving and involved in their location.
We currently have 41 employees. Weekly health/wellness tidbits are in our weekly newsletter. Company provides $30 toward a monthly gym membership. Company started a Wellness Committee in 2010. Biggest loser competitions. There are several walking groups at lunch.
At my company we have a full wellness checkup every year. Blood pressure, weight, cholesterol, iron, BMI, glucose, etc. We then have a dedicated health coach contact us with regards to ways in which we can improve some of our trouble areas. We get monthly suggestions pertaining to the issue you are dealing with. The suggestions come in the form of a phone call or emails.
Certain departments also have their entire ins paid, including family. Which promotes you to go to the doctor more for your physicals.
We also have a few treadmills and exercise bikes on site for people to use during their break or lunch times.
We have started providing fresh fruits on a regular basis for employees and are cutting back on fast food or less healthy lunches. We are converting vending machines to have healthier choices. And we are bringing in speakers from our health insurance provider on general health and wellness topics. We havent started any of our challenges yet but plans are in place.
Our agency is very health-conscious, both in terms of physical and mental/emotional wellness. In addition to typical medical insurance, we offer free counseling and therapy sessions to all of our employees and their immediate family members. Our agency sponsors an annual Wellness Day complete with guest speakers, blood screenings, bone density screenings, smoking cessation information, a spa corner featuring makeovers and massage, and free organic vegetable plants for all participants. Year-round our Wellness Committee sponsors a Biggest Loser contest, as well as workshops teaching such things as relaxation techniques, yoga, and hands-on healthy cooking demonstrations. Employees rack up "wellness points" for each activity they participate in, and are rewarded with free days or gift certificates.
We were lucky enough to move into a new facility in 2009 and integrate a new fitness room into our facility. The room is fully equipped with an elipitcal, rowing machine, free weights and exercise bike. The room is open to employees before and after work hours and we even provide 1 hour "free" a week for exercising. Most employees divide their free hour into two half hour sessions. For those who like a little more structure to exercising we have fitness trainers come in during lunch to provide classes. Mondays - yoga, Wedesday- Boot Camp, Thursday- aerobics, Fridays - advanced Boot camp and beginning Tuesdays in July - Zumba! The classes and exercise equipment are provided free of charge to our employees. Since exercising should be combined with a good diet, we also sponsor Weight Watchers at Work where the company pays for 50% of the weekly fee and also gives awards for attendance as well as percentage of weight loss. We have been very successful and our call out have declined dramatically since instituting this program!
We started our grass roots Wellness Program in November of 2008. We initially had quarterly challenges which included, a walking challenge, fruit & veggie challenge, stress management challenge and a physical activity challenge. We post weekly newsletters in the bathrooms that have information on health and wellness. We have a weekly Healthy Tips of the Week email that is sent out. Our company has always been generous and caring about it's employees by paying 100% of employee medical premiums and a very large percentage of the other tiers. This has not changed since we have been on group health insurance. The wellness program has evolved and is still evolving as a part of our culture. We are about to begin our second Biggest Loser Challenge tomorrow. Our first weight loss challenge ended 3 weeks ago and we lost 710 pounds and inches! Our folks are more conscious of their health...we are eating better, walking together, walking the stairs (we are on the 10th floor). It's so awesome to experience all of the energy and encouragement that's taking place. We are starting a weekly Boot Camp tomorrow that will take place onsite to be a part of our weight loss challenge. Additionally, we have a Quit Program to encourage smoking cessation. On top of that we have a fruit and vegetable of the week that is brought in every Monday. We are getting rid of one of our coke machines and replacing it with a cooler that will hold 100% fruit juice. This is truely a wonderful place to work and be a part of. One of a kind.
We offer low cost memberships to our community rec center. We have quarterly weight loss competions with $100 to the winner. We only charge our employees $50 per month for health care coverage, including dental and $100 per month for family coverage. We have eliminated the candy dishes that were all over the office and when we have celebrations, we try to provide healthy treats as opposed to the usual do-nuts.
Our company is having us do the biggest loser for 6 months and if you have a bmi over 28% lose 14 lbs and have a 3rd party send in you get reimbursed the amount you paid. Also they are providing incentives in another program where you can get 100 and the final four will get $10,0000
We are fairly basic right now. We have a monthly newsletter that provides recipes, tips, and suggestions for better health. We have on-site fitness facility at our corporate HQ. Our health insurance program is not platinum, but it has a high level of wellness oriented options. Unfortunately, we stopped a $2400 wellness bank benefit to employees for health club / personal training / massage / etc in 2009 due to economy. We have not reinstated that yet.

[...] How Does Your Company Promote Employee Wellness? Sure, it helped that we sweetened the deal by adding the chance to win an iPod nano – but it was refreshing to see the huge response from employers who actively promote their employees’ well-being. Although only one person won the iPod, everyone who read both this post and our follow-up post walked away with some great ideas for promoting wellness at their own organizations. [...]
